Do you know the difference between an Alpaca and Llama?
When you look at the photo which is which?
If you guessed the front animal is an Alpaca and the back animal is a Llama, you’d be right!
So, what are the key differences?
- What’s the the first thing you notice different between these two girls? Their size? Llama’s are bigger than Alpaca’s. Trinity the Llama is small for a Llama but you can still see how much taller she is than Dolly the Alpaca.
But what if, as is usually the case, the Llamas and Alpacas aren’t standing side by side?
2. Check out their ears. Do you see a difference in the ears? Dolly’s ears (the white Alpaca in the front) are considerably shorter than her Llama friend Trinity behind her. Llama’s ears are much taller and more expressive than Alpaca’s ears.
3. What about the nose/muzzle size? Llama Trinity’s nose is longer. In general, in addition to taller ears, Llama’s have longer noses.
These are the biggest and most obvious differences between Llama’s and Alpaca’s. What differences do you notice?
